Do you want to go on an adult-only cruise line and escape the madness that other major cruise lines have with children everywhere? Well, you will want to look into a Virgin Voyages Cruise – but you might as well save some money while you are at it!

1. Reserve your cruise 180 days before departure
Booking a cruise 180 days before departure will allow you to save 10% off of your total package! If you know you are sailing within the next six months, you can book the cruise and get a discount!
2. Pay for your cruise fare in full
Another way to save money, if you have the funds or the credit card limit, is to pay for your cruise fare in full! If you book the cruise 180 days before departure and pay in full, you can save up to 20% of the total price!
3. Book a Lock It In Rate Ltd View Sea Terrace
Some people will tell you that to save money, you should book an inside cabin or ocean view, but I want to let you know there is another way you can have your balcony (and iconic red hammock) and save money! Get yourself a Lock It In Rate Ltd View Sea Terrace!
The lock-it-in rate is discounted but acts fast because they can sell out quickly. There are even Lock Rates for the Rockstar and Mega RockStar Suites. This is the best deal if it is still available.
4. Get a Virgin Voyages bar tab
On Virgin Voyages, you can purchase a $300 bar tab, which works like an onboard credit for bars, and get a bar tab bonus of $50 towards free drinks. The Bar Tab is Virgin Voyages’ answer to the Drinks Package.
You can learn more about the Bar Tab here!
5. Sail with friends or family
If you have a group of friends that want to go on a vacation, pitch going on a Virgin Voyages cruise! If your whole group (of 10 or more cabins) wants to sail together and you are in sea terrace cabins, the partition of the balconies can be open, and you can take over a whole floor.
Also – if you have a group of 10 cabins or more, you can work with Sunset Chasers to get additional perks, like a complimentary cabin.
6. Reserve a Gorgeous Suite
If you are sailing with 4 of your besties, consider upgrading to the Gorgeous Suite. This Suite is the most inexpensive option out of the Mega Rockstar suites, but it still comes with all of the perks – essentially unlimited drinks. The only con to those suites is that two people will need to sleep on a couch, and the other is a peek-a-boo shower (if you are not into that).
Once you break down the cost, it is an affordable way to experience some of the incredible luxuries!
7. Upgrade to a higher cabin level
Did you book a Sea Terrace but you wished you had a Rockstar Suite? Well, you have the opportunity to put in a bid to upgrade to a better suite! This is the perfect opportunity to try to get a better suite on a sailing that isn’t 100% full.
8. Bring your Booze on Board
One of the benefits of sailing with Virgin Voyages is that you can bring two bottles of wine or champagne onboard per stateroom. There is a cost if you want to bring the bottle to dinner or drink outside your cabin, but it is just as easy to pop a bottle of champagne on your balcony and enjoy the views.

11. Join their loyalty program
Virgin Voyages is still rolling out the details of its loyalty program – Virgin Voyages Sailing Club. Still, at the time of this writing, if you are eligible for their loyalty program, you get a pretty good discount on coffee, sailor loot (onboard credit), and other amenities that perfectly complement your sailing.
The program is divided into Sea Blazers – those who sailed in 2021, and Sea-Rovers – those who sailed twice between January 2022-April 2023. And the Match and Sea More Program – those members of special rewards programs.
- Expedited Boarding
- $100 Bar tab
- Unlimited Premium Wifi
- Dedicated Sailor Services Support On Board
- Exclusive Cocktail Event
- Laundry Service
- $10 daily specialty coffees credit per cabin
12. My Next Virgin Voyage – Extend the Glow
The best way to keep yourself interested in cruising is by booking your next trip! While you are on board, your future self will thank you for visiting the future cruise desk by putting a deposit on your next cruise. For your next cruise, you will get $600 in onboard credit plus $300 off your next voyage when you put down a $300 deposit for your next getaway.
13. Order a coffee with Room Service
Unlike other cruise lines, room service is not free, but it costs $5. However – if you need a $3 coffee in the morning, you can order that coffee, and your Room Service will be essentially free!
14. Participate in activities on board
If you like free drinks or prizes, participate in some of the activities on board! You never know when you will get a free round of cocktails as a prize!
15. Book your spa services on a day the ship is in port!
Now, I know going to the spa on a cruise ship (or on land) is a luxury, but book your Massage or Thermal Suite package on a port day! The best day to book a service is on Bimini day because many of the services are at a lower price point.
We could use the Thermal spa for $39 instead of $59 because we opted to go on Bimini Day!
Read our blog post on the best things to do while visiting Bimini!
16. Book travel insurance with a third party
As your first mate (fancy language for travel agents), Sunset Chasers highly suggest getting travel insurance – but do not get just any travel insurance; we suggest getting it with a third party.
17. Book Shore Excursions with third parties
Even though booking a shore thing sounds fun, some excursions should and can be booked with third parties. Virgin voyages stay in port longer than most cruise ships, so the likely hood of being left behind is slim to none.
