Spending money on a vacation is one of the best things to do while on a Cruise. Whether you want drinks, coffee, or spa services, there is always a way to spend some money while on board. When exploring new cruise lines, there are a few different terminologies that you may encounter. Two new Terminologies for Virgin Voyages Cruise are Sailor Loot and Bar tab.

What is Sailor Loot on Virgin Voyages, and What can I spend it on?

Sailor Loot is Virgin Voyage’s onboard cruise credit that you can spend on several things. The Term Sailor Loot is a cutesy phrase to describe the equivalent of onboard credit on other lines. You can spend the Sailor loot almost anywhere on the cruise ship. 

Things to Spend your Sailor Loot on while on board the Virgin Ship

I don’t know about you, but I love to purchase things on a cruise ship! Whether it is an upgraded meal, extra premium drinks, or bottles of champagne, there is always something for me to spend my money on while sailing on cruises.

Shore Things booked on board. 

We always suggest booking your Shore Things (shore excursions) before your cruise so you can make sure you get to go on the activities you want. However, if you decide there is a Shore Thing that you want to do while hanging out on one of the Virgin Ships, then you can use some of your Sailor Loot to purchase those Shore Things.

When sailing on the Scarlet Lady, my favorite Shore thing has been booking a Cabana at The Beach Club at Bimini in the Rockstar area on a Caribbean Cruise. 

Upgraded Dining Experiences and treats

Virgin Voyages is an all-inclusive experience. However, there are always little treats and food upgrades you can get for yourself. Each dining room offers 1-3 things you can get for an upcharge from exceptional meats or seafood towers.

My favorite upgraded Dining experience is ordering the Wagyu Beef while you are in Gunbae. These thin slices of meat are perfect for a small additional fee. 

Coffee, Juices, and Smoothies

Coffee, Juice, and Smoothies are not included in your basic beverages because they are premium. However, you can use your Sailor Loot to grab these delicious drinks while on board.

Some of my favorite things to purchase were a coffee each morning to wake me up and a green juice after a night of partying with my sister.

Room Service

Even though Room service does come with some additional fees, you can use your Sailor loot to pay for the cost of room service.

Pro Tip: if you are getting room service for breakfast, you can get a coffee to offset the cost of the service fee. Even just a $3 coffee will waive the delivery fee.

A Spa day in the Thermal Suite

If you need a few quiet moments, book yourself a day in the Thermal Suite. I love booking a day or two in the thermal suite while cruising. If you want to save on the extra costs, you can book your thermal Suite day on a port day for the ultimate relaxation. Most people do not know this, but the best time to do the thermal suite is on Bimini Day because you get the discounted price, and you do not have to worry about getting too dressed up to go to the beach club.

A Massage or facial

What’s better than splurging on a few spa treatments while on the Virgin Voyages cruise? The best part is the Massage or facials have all service charges rolled up in the price, so what you see is what you have to pay. There are no additional tips or surcharges added to the cost.

A haircut or other style

Do you want to pamper yourself? Any haircuts or blowouts can be super fun, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion or you want to look your best while you are on board. These services are eligible to be paid for with your sailor loot.

Manicures or Pedicures

Virgin Voyages is all about relaxing, so if you didn’t have time to get your nails done before going on the sailing, you would have the ultimate treat yourself experience by getting a manicure or pedicure while watching the ocean sail away.

Retail Therapy with onboard shopping

There are so many things that you can spend your money on with your onboard credit! From Virgin Voyages swag to maybe some over-the-counter medicines that you forgot to purchase before the cruise, sailors can have fun visiting the different shops and purchasing additional amenities.

Credits towards the Casino Games

If you are the gambling type, you can use some of your onboard credit towards the casino. You can use the sailor loot towards gameplay, but unfortunately, you cannot cash out any of that money.

If you have a lot of free Sailor loot left over, you might as well play your favorite slots!

Bingo Cards

If gambling is not your thing, but you like to have a little bit of fun on board, you can use your Sailor loot for some Bingo Cards. You can get a couple of cards and participate in Drag Bingo. If you win, you could win additional cash for your free Sailor loot!

Onboard Experiences

Some small onboard experiences cost a nominal fee that you can pay with your sailor loot. Usually, these items are worth the upcharge (and give you access to additional drinks). Some of the events on board include afternoon tea, sip and paint, and learning how to take photos of cocktails and food!

Tattoos or Piercings 

Finally, if you want to remember your cruise for the rest of your life, you can sign up to get a tattoo or piercing while on board! Whether you do a custom tattoo or want a simple anchor on your wrist -getting a tattoo at sea is one of the most unique experiences you can have while cruising.

How is Sailor loot different from the Bar tab on Virgin Voyages?

Sailor Loot and Bar tabs are two different things. Unfortunately, you cannot use your bar tab for anything listed for the Sailor loot items, but you can use your Sailor loot for anything your bar tab can cover. Confusing huh?

Since Virgin Voyages does not have a traditional Drink package, if you wanted to shake for champagne or get your friends a round of drinks, you would have to use our bar tab first for all alcoholic purchases, and if that runs out, you can use your Sailor loot.

One fun way to spend a bunch of sailor loot (or your bar tab) at one time is shaking for bottles of champagne!

No Matter what, you can use your Loot or Bar tab on a friend if you have some extra spending to do.

What can I not use Sailor Loot for

There are very few things on board that you cannot use your Sailor loot for, but you cannot use your Sailor loot to secure My next Virgin Voyage – a future voyage credit.
